SENS Sustainability & Energy Network in Staveley
SENS was formed in November 2007 to discuss sustainability action in the village, by looking at ways to reduce the energy use, explore the potential for hydro-electric schemes, promote cycling and walking, renewable technologies and to raise awareness of and take action on climate change.

▪ New members welcome – contact Fran (821459), Alastair or any of the committee members if you have a project you’d like to propose or want to take part in current projects, or simply be on our mailing list for meetings.
Objectives of the Group (in our constitution) are:

▪ To reduce the human impact on both the local and global ecology

▪ To increase the use of alternative fuel and power sources within the Kent valley and surrounding area

▪ To increase local and global awareness of ecological, Fair Trade and sustainability issues in the Kent valley and surrounding area, via a newsletter and a website

Photovoltaics to generate electricity from the sun-Mon 19th Sept 2011. Ever wondered what the costs and benefits really are of installing solar panels on your roof? This evening will cut through the hype and visit a couple of houses in the village that have recently installed solar panels. The owners will be on hand to explain how much it all cost, how much they are saving on bills and earning through selling their electricity and maybe help you to decide whether it might be worth it for you. For more information contact Alastair Muir on 821459

Garden Share Scheme Picture of local apple variety newly planted in a Staveley garden Do you have a part of your garden that you would be happy to share with someone keen to grow? ... Or ... Are you lacking enough space for your itchy green fingers? Let’s match up the spaces ... and support each other... towards more Staveley-grown fresh produce & Staveley-tended blossoming gardens! Many different Garden Share projects exist; ours can be very flexible and fit with other ways people are supporting growing in the area. If you’re interested, call Kay on 821735

Hydro – the proposal to develop hydro power at Barley Bridge is on hold, because the ownership of Barley Bridge Weir and the future use of the Kentmere Ltd mill site is still uncertain.
